Counting the Cost of Following
“And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:27, KJV)
Reflection
Jesus speaks plainly about discipleship by removing all illusions of convenience. Following Him is not an accessory to life but a surrender of it. The cross represents willingness to lay down personal agendas, comfort, and control. Leaders often want the benefits of following Jesus without embracing the cost, yet Jesus offers no shortcuts. Leadership shaped by His words understands that true commitment requires sacrifice. When leaders accept the cost of discipleship, their obedience gains clarity, their purpose deepens, and their influence reflects authenticity rather than compromise.
Implementation Tip
Christian entrepreneurs and ministry leaders should take an honest look at where comfort or convenience has softened their commitment to Christ. Identify one area where obedience has been delayed because of personal cost, reputation, or uncertainty. Ask yourself what it would require to follow Jesus if all excuses were removed.
